Onir – The Famous Bollywood Director and Producer
Onir was born in Samchi, a compact town in Bhutan on the 30th April, 1969. Right after his schooling in Bhutan he arrived to Kolkatta(India) and graduated as a pupil of Comparative Literature from Jadavpur College in 1989. Although in College he was also learning German, Russian , Bengali, and Tamil. Aside from it he joined the Film experiments program at Chitrabani, Kolkatta.
In 1991 he co-directed his initial documentary movie at a perform shop organized by Max Muller Bhavan and Chitrabani in Kolkatta. The documentary film was known as “Glimpses of School Avenue”. In the same 12 months he was available scholarship to teach at an state-of-the-art editing study course with SFB/TTC Berlin.
Returning from Berlin he built his initial independent documentary (it was also generated by him). ‘Fallen hero’ (1992) was a documentary, which was a portrait of an ageing painter Bijon Chaudry and his dilemma with the switching political situation in Bengal. Soon afterwards he shifted base to Mumbai to perform as a freelance editor, new music album producer, corporate filmmaker, etc. all the although trying to go in the direction of films, which was his ultimate objective.
In 1999 he acquired his 1st expertise with on the job filmmaking. He was the movie editor, tune designer, and track director of the movie “Daman” directed by Kalpana Lajmi. This is the place he achieved Sanjay Suri. Sanjay’s encouragement created Onir commence performing on his scripts. 5 many years, 5 scripts and no producers! At last in 2004 Sanjay and Onir determined to create Onir’s initial film “My brother Nikhil” which was to develop into the first principal stream film that tackled the difficulty of homosexuality aside from working with problems of Human legal rights and HIV AIDS. Yash Raj released this film on 25th March, 2005.
