Maria Marino brings the vivid shades of her working day-time landscapes into the evening with her pastel nocturnes. See more of her function (each working day and night) in our Voices of Encounter write-up. We have questioned some of our favorite artists to display us illustrations of their night time paintings and to tell us a minimal bit about their processes in this sequence of Nocturne Notes.
Marino shared with us these two examples of her exuberant, expressive pastel nocturne paintings. She told us that her goal is in “catching the mystery of that unique time of evening”

“In the end, it is about receiving the viewer to come to feel

alternatively than to fully grasp, to investigate rather than to take a look at,

and to adore it relatively than to go it by.”
